Ownage!

12 x 1 today was great. Not much screw ups (just the baton passing errors), and hence a pretty good run for the entire class. Heck, we won our heat before the start of our third round. =D

OWNAGE!

Now, onto the damned baton passing... >_>

And to remove those muscle cramps. Two days of insane leg work is just not my thing. >_<

Heh, I guess the batch in 2008 should be interesting to watch. With the dates of the JC1 intake being pulled from March to January, it will not give them the 3 months free time. The only time in JC which they can seriously enjoy.

Hell, I was thankful for the 1st three months. Its a time to seriously mess around for no reason, skipping lessons and stuff.

Since the 2008 batch won't get it. Too bad.

But seriously, why change the system? The 3 months can work as a break to those who don't want to study so early, or as a little trial period to those who entered JC. It's thanks to those months that I dropped F maths in the first place. Way too tiring. This is something which I probably won't understand. If the thing is't broken, why fix it?

Interesting.

Song of the (whatever) has been chosen by Winamp. For some reason, it chose the Battle IV from the Magnacarta soundtrack, composed by Jang, Sung-Woon. My favourite soundtrack, I have to say. Powerful, emotional, and overall balanced soundtrack. Pity that it lacks a vocal track, or else it would have been perfect.

Finally....

...an anime with a decent ending. Gundam Seed finished with decent ending. Ok for me, I guess, since the last few games/animes have just crap ending (Cowboy Behop, Half Life 2 and KoToR 2)

How can it be fair if you are given more time to think? Quiz is counted as test btw, so it's only logical to have a time limit. And how can you prove that you did not copy down the questions and source for answers? If you are allowed to stop quiz, and continue after maybe a few hrs later, chances are, you may have cheated. Is it still called fair?

Hmm, a quiz and a test are pretty much 2 different things. I don't see us sitting in the hall, with teachers breathing down our necks when we are doing a quiz. Also, it's not like no one cheats during the test. With the ability of the internet these days (google), I believe that people can get all the answers easily, and also within that time frame.

"Ah..Dilemmas.."

You don't have to. Simple. Finish it before doing anything. I am sure you have longer attention span than that.

Obviously, he does not get my point. The "anything" was "something unexpected". If it's something unexpected, then how can we finish it, before doing anything? Again, it's not whether we have a good attention span, it's just that someone comes up suddenly, and we are forced to give up the computer.

These are comments are to my notion that the "save and exit" button is useless, which IMO, is still useless. I mean, you save and exit, obviously due to a need to leave and do it later. Why bother having such a button when the time continues to tick down? >_>

Kinda stupid, IMO...

The movie isn't that bad, all that a cartoon movie should have....is there.

LoL.

*Left, right...Left..right..

A set of clothing soaked with blood, a face with smears of blood everywhere.

A set of arms and legs moving, slashing anything that looks organic.

An absolute killing machine.

Falcon.

However, Falcon isn't killing people just for kicks.

He had a reason to.

"Bastards." Falcon whispered, when there was a slight pause between the waves of enemies rushing towards him.

With the twin swords, Estreledge(s), in his hands, Falcon proceeded with his mission.

Killing, and removing these pieces of filth from the face of the world.

A foolish soldier decided to take a chance, jumping out of the crowd to attack him.

Smiling humorlessly, Falcon sidestepped, allowing the idiot to fall face first onto the floor. One quick stab between the ribs is all that is needed to remove another one of these pests.

Another one down, a few thousand to go.

With every slash, with every stab, memories and recollections of his purpose crashed down on him.

Rachel. (OOC: Why Rachel again..? >_>)

Her smile, her kindness, her gentleness.

Her dark eyes, seemingly possible to drown anyone in them.

Killed by these...wastes, as they were invading his home, looting and burning. Falcon arrived only in time to see a spear plunge through Rachel's chest. Just in time to see the soldiers laughing as they saw Rachel's life force slowly left her body and soul.

As he watched, he felt a part of himself being taken away as well. The girl which he had known since childhood, being murdered in coldblood by people who are not even worthy to sniff her air.

The emptyness, the void came quickly.

Before leaving quickly as well, replaced by anger.

Fresh hot anger ran through his body. He felt his hands moving automatically towards his twin servants, before allowing them to taste foul blood from people who needed to train at least a few more thousand years before they could ask to duel with Falcon.

After their lives were spent, blood being absorbed into the ground, Falcon vowed to kill each and everyone of these filth.

Even if it was going to cost him his life.

As memories returned once again, Falcon fought to remove the lump in his throat, fighting against his will to shed tears for a person he truely loved. Even as emotions washed over him, he was still able to kill the fools easily.

A result of years of training.

A sign of his mastery.

Suddenly, Falcon saw his ultimate target. The one which caused all these trouble.

The fool who decided to take over his peaceful village.

The king.

As his best soldiers decide to be more active instead of sitting near their king, trying to protect him or something, Falcon inched ever so closer towards the king.

Before long, even the best soldiers has fallen, their skills no match to that of Falcon.

Hence, he is finally alone with the king. Falcon looked forward to see the coward on his knees and begging for mercy, offering huge loads of gold, honour and titles which could make him second only to the king of this miserable kingdom, women which could satisfy every of his needs.

The list goes on.

"Fool." was the only word Falcon muttered, before a quick clean swipe made the king's head drop onto the floor, rolling along the floor before friction finally made it stop in front of his legs.

And so, Falcon had finally achieved what he was here to do. Killing the king.

Yet, what was this...empty feeling that he got? A feeling of sadness and emptyness, instead of joy and satisfaction.

Kicking the head away, Falcon turned to see the throne room littered with dead or dying bodies. Blood splattered all over the walls and the floor.

Sighing, Falcon looked towards the only enterence of the room, preparing to head out to the ever cruel world.

A figure was standing near the doorway.

"Another fool who thin-"

Falcon could only stare at the person standing.

It's impossible. It had to be, perhaps it's another one of those tricks his mind was playing on him.

Yet, his eyes, his senses has never lied.

Walking in a pace which is neither too fast or too slow, it moved towards him.

Falcon was rooted to the ground, still unable to believe what he was seeing.

"Rachel..?" Falcon whispered, almost hopefully.

Rachel only smiled, the one which could bring joy to his heart in the most depressing of situations.

"But I saw yo-" Falcon's words were interrupted by Rachel pressing her lips against his.

Kissing him.

Suddenly, Falcon's mind went blank, unsure what to do. He had probably thought of this situation many times, probably after some kind of dinner, after some movie date.

But never in this kind of situation...

His arms, however, didn't need the brain to give them orders. Circling Rachel, his arms moved to the back of Rachel, gently pressing her against Falcon's body.

As if to say that Falcon's darkest moments of his life was over, sunlight entered the room through one of the windows, bathing the two of them in it's warm and gentle rays.

Peeling away unwillingly, Falcon starred once more into those lively eyes, eyes which he thought he would never see ever again. As if working on their own, Falcon's lips moved towards Rachel's. The two of them embraced tightly as they kissed, the sunlight creating an aura which as if would shield and bind them together forever.*

Ah yes...flagday...

The day when you seem to have some kind of dark aura around you, one which makes people take a detour (sometimes a huge one) to avoid you, or to simply ignore your mere existance in this world.

Selling flags is never fun. Standing rooted to a spot for a few hours, while putting a fake smile on your face, approaching people and hoping that they will drop some kind of coins is boring.

But hey, I need the hours, so I ain't complaining.

But then..selling flags..?

Kinda a waste of time, I say. Some people just head back home, or merely do like an hour or so, before heading off for a movie. I can't say I'm not guilty, but at least I did stand there for three out of the five hours. When I went back to return the bag, I can see that some of them really didn't do shit. A little shake is all that is needed to see how many coins there are inside. When the aunty took my bag, she complimented me, saying "this boy has been working hard"

Working hard?

Nah. It just requires timing, and some skill. Stake out a good sniper nest, then approach people. It's just that simple. If you are going to stand near someone, then decide to just wait for some poor idiot to come to you, you ain't going to get anything.

But still, selling flags is pretty much a waste of time. Community involvement? Don't make me laugh....

Pretty sad for me, yeah? =D

But then, some people just want to make you shout at them or something. If you don't want to donate, a simple sign and I will back off. Some just ignore your existance, or wait for some sacrificial sheep to donate, before running past me or something.

Bah.

At least 5 hours are in the bag. I lost track of how many hours I managed to obtain...

Who cares.

Councilors....

Ah yes, finally, fresh blood has arrived in our pathetic excuse for a college. =D

Well, some sort of an orientation was tossed onto them, possibily unwillingly.

And a shit load of crap flung into the Council Interns (CIs)

Yay for them. I've been in their shoes. Seeing them getting scolded by Simon almost made me cry as I remembered the days when I was an intern, times when getting shouted at, Xiang Zhen crying...

Ah...

Those were the times.

Well, at least this year is different. Lectures in the morning, games in the afternoon. A little check on the field in the afternoon....

Well, let's just say there are probably more OGLs and CIs combined then there are OGMs.

Again, not surprising.

I remember how pissed I was, after spending days to work out some sort of plans, before morons just decide to walk out. However, after spending some time reflecting, I realised that Orientation 2 was, and will always be, a mistake to have. It's a total joke show, no matter how hard the CIs try. No one wants to do it. Period.

Kinda sad, don't you think?

At least the CIs will know what council life is. A quick check with the poor CI guarding the gate on wednesday, as I was heading back home to change at 11am, confirmed what I have been thinking: Few, if any, of the CIs, are heading for election.

During my time, we started off with over 50. By the end of Friendship day/valentine's Day/whatever-you-call-it day, we had 32. By the time O2 was more or less planned and finialised, we had only 28 left.

And guess what? Only 7 (or something, if my memory did not fail me) stood for elections. And two of them are repeat students.

Being a councilor is fun. I can never find that kind of bonding within a club that was so close. The times when we helped each other, cover each other's ass when Simon decides to use us as his exhaust pipe.....

Then again, I guess it just isn't worth it. Being a Council means you need to devote lots of time. With that, comes pressure. I can handle pressure (I think), but it's the time part which I am worried about.

Then again, it could be some other reasons which I keep evading from...

Like that there's a girl there which I can't say I hate, or that there are a few morons who stood for elections (and they won, somehow).

Or maybe...

Who knows?

At least, I know what being a councilor is like. Thank god it isn't permnant. I mean, one look on Hikel's face on wednesday morning somewhat tells the story.

Simon isn't happy.

The usual.

Well, it would be interesting to see how many CIs will head for elections this year.

Elections...

Attractions...

Erections...

I still feel that I made the right choice by playing a game of poker with my CCA mates. It did pretty much pay off in the end.

Saiyuki Reload Gunlock is released! I wonder when in the blue hell are they going to get to India.. >_>

Zzz...

125 hours later.

One game later.

I FINALLY FINISHED Knights of the Old Republic II!!

Not that it is THAT fun. I mean, the ending really pissed me off a lot. Just like..2 minutes of crap.

>_>

And I thought KoToR 1 was bad enough.

That makes me come to a point. How important are endings? I have seen excellent Animes, read excellent books, but yet, a poor ending seem to make the entire book/series die off. I mean, look at the New Jedi Order series. Excellent series, with plenty of shocks in between and a nice bit of action and romance. Then, the author for the final book tried to go big, but it just seemed to fizzle out. Cowboy Behop, another great Anime series, but with a pretty poor ending. Why can't all the endings be simple, and happy, like Arc the Lad? That is probably still my favourite anime because it had a decent ending. Something which leaves you satisfied and contented.

So...

Blah to KoToR 2, although I may play again to see if I can get romancing with the other lady (Handsmaiden, for those who care. I got Visa)

This shows how a poor game ending, no matter how well the game is, can sometimes ruin your satisfaction for completing a game, especially one as long as KoToR...

Whee!

*is a proud owner of a 4gb Zen Touch Micro*

^^

Fine fine, it's only 4gb, but hey, I missed out on the IT show, so who cares?

I actually wanted the 5gb one, at a discounted price of $249, but requires you to queue up, since it's only limited to the first 50 customers.

Went there at 9, thinking I was early.

Damn, I'm sooo wrong.

Half the world is already there.

>_>

My bro got a friend who has been queueing since 2PM. Queue number? 60+

O_o

I guess those in front must be queueing since day 0 or -1.

And I overheard someone saying that he's queueing for the Creative Mediaplayer, which is the promotional item on day THREE.

Here he is, sitting there happily on the night of day one.

Incredible, as to what some people will do to get some bargains...lol.

48 hours or $150..?

I rather pay $150 more, if I wanted to buy the 5gb one.

Took one look at the queue, and decided against it. Good thing too, since the Last Exile episode on Friday was a pretty good one.

But still, you just have to...admire, those people taking hours off their lives just to queue up for an item, which would probably go old in a year or two. I mean, queueing on the first damn day for the a third day promotional item?

Then again, all they need to do is to put their bags there, disappear once in a while, aka take shifts with their friends to go home and sleep or something.

Still...they really need a life...

....

*"But why?" Falcon asked, almost sadly.

"There is no why."

"But to pretend that nothing happened, to ignore you from now on....I just can't do that!" Falcon said, almost tearfully.

"You must.."

"If you want to hurt me more, then say hi to me everytime you see me."

Instantly, Falcon knew, this battle was lost.

There is nothing he can do.

He was presented in a situation that he, for once, cannot win.

"Fine." Falcon replied.

If that's what you wish, Falcon thought, I will honour it.

Good bye.*

Chelski being too arrogant?

Nah. I call that winner's attitute. =P

I mean, c'mon. They can be arrogant. They have come from a 1-2 deficit to defeat Barca.

More importantly, Jose needs to show the English Football mangaers that he isn't afraid of them. Yes, they can play mind games, and so can he. =D

--
(When you see the *, it means it's a story. Cya.)

*It was a bright sunny morning. The birds were chirpping away happily. The gentle wind caused the grass to sway peacefully. The skies are clear, and the temperature is just nice, neither too hot, nor too cold.

Ther perfect morning.

Yet, in the middle of a bed found in a small cozy cottage on the outskirts of the city, a shape of a ball was formed under a blanket. Anyone peeping in will merely think that it's the blanket being lumped together.

On closer inspection, one would see a person inside the warmth of the blankets.

Falcon.

"Gaah...Can't sleep worth nuts..."

Always the person to wake up early, Falcon had a little too much to drink the night before, and wanted to sleep till late into the afternoon. Yet, his body clock told him to be awake before even the sun rose. Falcon then spent the nxt few hours in a waking-sleeping cycle which switches every five minutes.

"I'm on holiday, leave notice officially given by the king, damnit.." Falcon muttered to nobody but himself. He just returned from an escort mission two days ago, protecting a prince who had to travel back home from an ally country. Not that the country had any intentions to kill the prince, they are to fearful for that, it's just the journey lay plenty of badguys, ranging from bandits to horse stealers.

Walking over to the wall where his sword, Belldandy hung, Falcon could not resist a smile.

Belldandy had seen blood during that journey. The idiocy of a group of bandits who thought that he was a common soldier.

They obviously did not notice that hs uniform was a little different from the rest of his comrades.

Three seconds, five slashes, twelve steps was all that was required to remove the source of nuisance.

Removing Belldandy from her stand on the wall, Falcon smiled once more as he slowly brought Belldandy out from her leather sheath, removing her of her clothes. The sound of metal against leather being sweet music to his ears.

Soon, Belldandy was naked. Holding her by the hilt, Falcon held it in front of him, turning it gently, allowing the reflected sunlight to shine to even the darkest corners of his room.

"Morning, Belldandy." Falcon whispered, almost sexually, before carassing the flat side of the sword slowly, intimately.

They say that your sword is a friend, an ally, a helper, a savior.

To Falcon, Belldandy was more then that.

She was...his lover.

Oh, he has his fair share of girls, two, to be exact. Being an elite soldier of the army, his body was pretty well built, and his skin tanned due to the long hours of journeying under the sun. He was introduced to countless noble ladies and beautiful ladies many times, during parties, when he was in a bar...the list goes on. Even the king himself had tried to find Falcon a suitable wife. With his good looks, status, and kind heart, he was probably a dream for most women.

Yet, Falcon took no liking in women, nor did he had any with relationships in general. To him, fighting is his life, his love, his soul. Hence, in a house that coul have benefitted greatly from having a presence of a woman, Falcon preferred it neat, empty and having only his sword as company.

Neat....

Looking lower onto the floor, there was an immediate notice as to how his house isn't exactly neat and tidy.

His uniform from yesterday. Falcon was pretty much drunk from yesterday, and simply removed his uniform, before dropping onto the bed and sleeping like the dead.

"Better clean that up, I gu-"

Suddenly, Falcon felt an extra presence in his house. Someone who should not be here has entered his house without permission.

An intruder?

No...he had a feeling he met this person before.

Still...

Turning a full 180 degrees, with Belldandy held in front in an offensive stance, Falcon was about to plunge it straight into the person's chest, when he stopped his movements.

There it was, in the middle of his house, looking at him.

A cat.

"Good morning, Falcon."

"Nice way to greet an old friend."
the cat spoke.

"How about telling me in advance next time?"

"Rachel."

The cat was Rachel Edinspourgh. Formerly a brillent scientist who due to an failed magical experiment, was changed into a cat.

Falcon still had no idea what the heck the experiment was about, despite pressing many times. Currently, he knew that the beautiful girl he was given the task to protect once had became a cat, and is currently trying hard to turn herself back to normal.

Somehow, she had retained her ability to speak in her clear, commanding voice.

"If I were an assassin, you would be with your maker.." Rachel grinned, with a hint of amusement in her voice.

"How the heck can assassins be cats..?" Falcon replied sourly.

"Jesus...don't scare me like that next time..." Falcon had plenty brushes with death to know how valuable life is.

Yet, in falling in love with fighting, knocking on death's door is pretty much part and parcel of it.

Heading into the kitchen, Falcon got Rachel some warm milk, before wondering why his friend was visiting him for.*

Well, in pure soccer context, derby are supposed to bring the best out of each team, and most of the time, it will display a highly contested match up..bt contradistinction to the match between MJC n TPJC..with respect to both team, it was prob one of the most horrenodus n appalling derbies in history of the beautiful game itself..hahahahz..oops..did i went tat far?? Well, mjc had the been playing mind games n hyping up the climate prior to the match by proudly annoucing thier brazilian coach..well, samba spice, samba dance n the crux of the matter, samba soccer was the talk of the town during pre-match..hahaz..bt no such influence came out thru it..

Good God, the way he typed was simply "horrenodus n appalling". HOW THE **** DO YOU EXPECT PEOPLE TO READ THAT? How in the blue hell do you..."hype up the climate"? I have no idea what the heck he's talking about for the "brazilian part". From what I get from that, it's something about MJC having a brazilian coach, and some girls doing the samba dance of some sort. Talk of the town? Forgive me for being ignorant, but I didn't hear it. Sorry.

Wat actuali came out was a disarray performace by both teams, with the meridians adapting the English long ball tactic( Please lah..no creativity ah)..n relying extremely heavy on their winger(the so called national winger)..gez one can read their game plan like a book..juz like TPjc's last man..

One man army! Whee. What's wrong with using the English Long Ball tactic? Heard of "don't reinvent the wheel?" If it's good, then they use it. Simple.

Bt this is not to say TPJC was the superior of the 2..well, in fact, they are losers of the game but kudos to them as they held their head up high..Purely in terms of strength, it was rather solid at the back(centre) than upfront..Frankly, a goal can have massive influence on the team..if the upfront scores, spirits and morals would be boosted..well, tpjc do have chances bt not converting it..

Nuff said. We have the chances, but we just cannot make the ball go into the net. If you are one goal down, and cannot shake yourself off to score, you should lose the game. Look at Chelsea, on goal down to Liverpool in the first few minutes. What happened next? Chelsea won.

More importantly, the gap betwn the two teams arent tat far..it was extremely dreadful seeing the 2 goals being conceded..Defensive error?? zero ball sense?? it aint a spectacular goal at all..itz juz a simple tap in..sheesh..hahaz..

What do you want? 50 foot goals? Sheesh. What's wrong with simple tap ins? Too...simple for you? A victory is a victory, no such thing as a beautiful victory or an ugly victory. Winning is everything. Heck, it's not like MJCians dived to get penalities or something.

Ok2...some points to ponder..left back n right back need to pull up their socks if tpjc wish to reach in2 the second round of the tournament..the wingers need to be more creative..the centre muz be tougher..commanding n possibly, generate ideas to attack..the upfont needs to be more clincal..the defensive part of the game muz be more intimidating..hard tackles..a little more expression to the game..wat i mean is u need to act..act fierce lah..bagi mesti bagi nya..hehez..

Whoa. Manager in the making. Go you! Take over the football team. You want beautiful football? Try and get it yourself.

well, tis is my -5 cents worth of superfical analysis of the game..imagine..padang macam teh katai nak main apa..in english: the field like sweetened tea, how to play??? hahahz

hahahaz....

Another day..

Another way...

First day of Holidays: Slept till 11, played till 7, read Manga till 9.

I love holidays.

I simply do nothing useful.

Ah well.

Anyway, Song of (whatever) is Dream X Dream by Auichi Rina, from the 8th Detective Conan movie. Definately one of my favourite songs. I wanted to put this up before, but TPJC has this stupid restriction of preventing you from uploading anything more then 10mb. Why do that when everyone's personal webspace is 20mb? >_>

Anyway, Mr Lee changed it, giving people 6 minutes and a 20 mb upload barrier.

6 minutes...

Plenty of time.

No more softball

I hope that we learn Rugby next term. Tennis just isn't my type of sport...

Ah well.

But I still messed up pretty badly.

Then again, it cold be worse....I didn't give anything more then 3 runs. The pitcher before me had like 5 runs.

Ah well.

Anyway, Song of the Whatever is now Your Rain sung by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and composed by Akira Yamaoka, from the Silent Hill 4 Soundtrack!

Damned TPJC won't let me put up my preferred song of the week...

Time to complain!

As I always have...

Drama! Action!

Most of all: Suspense....

How will the students/band members react to the explosion?

Join BAND, to find out.

And oh, while you are at it, Join Chess Club as well.

Pikachu commented (when I got his MC which I am going to pass to Commando Lee tomorrow) that we should not be spoon fed so much, saying that we should do away with lecture notes, and just be given the minimum, forcing us to find info by outselves.

I wonder...does it really work?

I mean, will we really work to find out own notes?

Probably yes. I mean, if our source of information is cut off, we will want to find new sources. After all, we all want to do well for our A Levels.

Then again, we maybe obtaining extra information which we probably won't need till second year in University, provided we take that course in the first place. Also, since we are going to find our own notes, then why is lectures necessary? All we need is tutorials to clarify what we don't know.

LoL.

Good...and bad.

Anomaly in the equation.

Physics class.

We decided that since there's only 2 seats, we decided to move forward.

Sadly, he followed us there as well.

Ah well.

Hence, the girls are forced to split up, since they came late today.

=P

That's what you get for being late!

Muhahhaa.

But anyway, thanks to us messing up the entire order, the girls were forced to sit in pockets, instead of the usual gang together.

Pity. It's like the universe decided to spin in the other direction at that time.

Or maybe I just am not used to it. LoL.

In anycase, I am getting irrtated with that guy constantly following me around. I don't mind people following me, but he needs to learn when to shut up. Every single morning, since last year, he asks me something stupid (Is there SPA today? Is there a test today? Am I gay today?). Dude, check your own freaking schedule. Stop being so blur. I mean, he's in the class for a whole year, and he does not know who sits where in physics lab.

>_>

Seesh. He needs to get his brain checked.

Wait, what brain?

MCPs > all

*NOTE: Once again, MCP side of me at work. Cya.*

XD

What's the point of Women trying to be equal? Their sole purpose is to serve us tea as and when we ask for it.

Why must everyone be equal? What's the competition in that? Look at communism where everyone is equal.

It failed.

So, someone has to be on top of the other. Why are some CEOs and some are the toilet cleaners? Why are some people elected to be leaders? Why are some people will forever be followers?

There can never be any equality in this world. Someone must be on top of another. If everyone is equal, then there won't be any compeition, any need to complain, and whatever.

So..

Nyah!

=P

MUHAHAHA

Continue serving tea.

Feminism still necessary?

*NOTE: This post will contain very sexist stuff against women. Being a total MCP myself, if you are those who cannot take morons like me, hit the back button. Bye*
March 6, 2005
Is feminism still relevant?
The women's movement has made much progress in the last century. But in a world where some women are still not allowed to vote or even drive a car, Ong Soh Chin urges women (and men) not to give up on feminism

IN A speech he made in 1963, the controversial American civil rights leader Malcolm X said: 'It's just like when you've got some coffee that's too black, which means it's too strong. What do you do? You integrate it with cream, you make it weak.

'But if you pour too much cream in it, you won't know you ever had coffee. It used to wake you up, now it puts you to sleep.'

While he was referring to the rights of the African-American in the 1960s, his words could very well sum up the feminist cause today.

It has become an eclectic yard sale of assumptions, misconceptions and philosophies, all cheapening the original value of the movement - to empower women and bring forth equality of the sexes.

Tuesday is International Women's Day, an event that is marked every year on March 8.

However, apart from a few female academics or social workers, it is likely that most women in Singapore do not even know of its existence or even the reason it exists.

Even fewer perhaps know that at this very moment, government representatives from more than 130 countries are in New York City as part of the United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women.

They are there to review a women's rights agreement - the Beijing Platform For Action - laid out in 1995 at the United Nations' Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing.

That platform saw 189 countries pledging to advance universal education for girls, end violence against women, and ensure access to life-saving reproductive health care, among other critical issues.

In fact, I daresay, few women even care.

For many, feminism remains an antiquated, embarrassing description. It is associated with strident, bra-burning alpha-females who sing I Am Woman and wear comfortable shoes - and not with a movement that has given women the many freedoms they take for granted today.

These include the right to vote, to own property and even to work - rights that were not available even 100 years ago and which are still not available to women in many societies.

Are women today suffering from collective amnesia? Have we become defanged apologists for our own gender? Or have we simply given up the fight because we mistakenly think there is nothing left to fight for?

All of the above.

The real meaning

LOOK up 'feminism' on Wikipedia on the Internet and you will get 32 subgenres of the term, including bizarre mutations like ecofeminism, fluffy feminism and transfeminism.

It is no wonder then that nobody today really knows what feminism entails or even what a feminist looks like.

Does she look like Condoleezza Rice? Britney Spears? Eleanor Wong? Ms Ho Ching? Kumar?

Ask a woman the simple question: 'Are you a feminist?' and you will get a lot of hems and haws.

A random and admittedly unscientific straw poll of 10 female friends and colleagues drew hesitant responses, with the majority of them eventually saying, 'No, I am not feminist.'

Their reasons? They do not believe in bra-burning and militancy (the pervasiveness of these virulent stereotypes!).

Or they think being stay-at-home mothers and expecting their husbands to bring home the bacon excludes them immediately from being feminists.

Interestingly enough, the same question, when posed to male friends and colleagues, drew an almost unanimous response. Yes, if feminism includes men, they would consider themselves to be feminists, simply because they believe in a woman's right to equality.

For the record, this is how dictionary.com defines feminism: 'Belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. The movement organised around this belief.'

Nowhere in the definition are the following excluded: Housewives, tai-tais, prostitutes, women who wear pink, karaoke lounge hostesses, Vietnamese brides or even men.

Dead cause?

BUT even with the business of semantics sorted out, there are many today who still feel feminism is an anachronistic cause.

While women have made much progress in the workplace, there is still a long way to go before real equality is achieved.

In 2003, just over 6 per cent of all company directors in Singapore were women. In comparison, in the United States, 60 per cent of the largest 1,000 companies, and nine in 10 Fortune 500 corporations, had at least one woman director.

Ms Cecilia Pang, Hewlett-Packard Asia Pacific's vice-president of corporate marketing, acknowledged that while many women have made advances in the business world, 'the numbers are still small in comparison'.

She said in an interview: 'When we choose to strive in a traditionally male-dominated environment, what we're asking for is to be evaluated fairly and equitably along with the guys and be given the same social and economic benefits and support. It is not about women wanting to behave like men.'

She was one of some 195 people - mainly women - who registered to attend a Women's Forum on Women And Power organised by Insead Asia on Thursday night.

The business school's dean, Professor Hellmut Schutte, admitted in his opening address: 'The business world is a male world. We do not have sufficient numbers of women in our programmes and not enough female professors.'

Keynote speaker, Dr Proserpina Domingo-Tapales, who is the deputy director of the Center For Women's Studies at the University of the Philippines, noted that while women in Asia had made inroads in the 'private' sphere of civil society, notably in the home and at grassroots organisations; they are still under-represented in the 'public' realm of politics.

Worldwide, women make up more than half the population, but only 12.7 per cent of all parliamentary seats.

Dr Suzaina Kadir, assistant professor of political science at the National University of Singapore (NUS), who also spoke at the forum, agreed, adding that this was also the case with women in Latin America.

'They don't stand within the radar screen of the state, and manage in societies where the state doesn't do what it's supposed to do,' she said.

Dr Domingo-Tapales added: 'It is important to get women into positions of power, because they are then in a position to make decisions which will lead to changes,' she said.

She noted that in the Philippines, as in most of Asia, the women who enter politics tend to come from political families, what she called 'kinship politics'.

Singapore perhaps deviates from this family model. But while it has 10 women PAP Members of Parliament and two women ministers of state, it has no full female minister.

In an interview with The Straits Times on Friday, Dr Amy Khor, MP and mayor of Southwest Community Development Council, said she would not be surprised if a female minister is named after the next election.

She added: 'Let's be candid about this. I'm not being self-serving, but I see no harm in celebrating the achievements of women, even in politics. There are so few of us to begin with.'

She also noted that in her four years as MP, a lot of her feedback was taken into account and made into policy. For example, the two-day childcare leave for both mothers and fathers and the merging of the EM1 and EM2 streams in primary schools.

Income disparity

WOMEN also have some way to go in terms of income equality. We work two-thirds of the world's working hours and produce half of the world's food. Yet, we earn only 10 per cent of the world's income and own less than 1 per cent of the world's property, according to a 1997 World Development Indicators report.

According to findings by the United Nations Development Programme's Human Development Resource Centre, the estimated earned income by women in Singapore in 2002 was US$15,822 (S$25,916). In comparison, Singapore men earned US$31,927.

The following figures, from The World Revolution, a global grassroots social movement; and the Women's Environment & Development Organisation, are just as sobering and should serve as a wake-up call to those who still feel that feminism is irrelevant:

# Of the 150 million children aged six to 11 who do not attend school, over 90 million are girls.

# Of the world's 876 million illiterate people over 15 years of age, two-thirds are women.

# One-third of all women have been violently abused.

# HIV/Aids infection among women is increasing. Globally, 48 per cent of adults with HIV/Aids are women.

# Women make up 70 per cent of the 1.3 billion people worldwide who live in absolute poverty.

Different concerns

NO MATTER whether one lives in New York or Nairobi, equality of the sexes has still not been achieved.

We are now well into the 21st century and there are still places in the world where women cannot vote or drive a car, where they are still subject to honour killings as well as brutal and primitive circumcision rituals aimed at limiting their enjoyment of sex.

While the women's movement has made much progress in the last century, what is the future prognosis if women (and men) choose to give up the feminist cause because they keep identifying it with bra-burning harridans?

Said Dr Suzaina in an interview: 'The continued association of feminism with bra-burning is problematic. It has created a lot of negative connotations and pushed many women and men away from being associated with feminists.

'It paints feminists as angry, militant bitches and has become part and parcel of a feminist backlash. As a consequence, it takes away attention from the struggles of feminism and the evolutions within feminism and what it wants to achieve.'

Of course, one could equally argue that while the militancy of the women's movement in the 1970s may have turned off a lot of people today, it also did a lot of good.

Bra-burning symbolised a shaking off of old values and hypocritical morals. Also, if not for the bra-burning, would people have sat up and taken notice of the cause in the first place?

As with many other social movements in the West, the feminist movement was at its most powerful and visible in the 1970s, so much so that 1975 was designated International Women's Year and 1976 to 1985 the UN Decade For Women.

Of course, in hindsight, feminism has made mistakes - frowning on women who decided to opt out of the workforce to become full-time wives and mothers, for example - but it is a movement that is constantly evolving with the times. At the time, it was important for women to realise that they did not have to be locked up in the kitchen.

Today, the concerns are different.

But it would be equally wrong for women now to take a step back and proudly proclaim that they want to exercise the right to be stay-at-home mothers without first realising that women have always had that right.

We never had to fight for it. It was handed to us on a silver platter from the beginning of time, with pink ribbons attached.

But have we forgotten that we had to fight for the right to work or to go to school?

To turn our backs now on the pioneers who fought for those luxuries, whether they went bra-less or not, would be tantamount to treason.

Feminists may not always agree. But this should not prevent us from talking to each other. And yes, men can be feminists, too. Indeed, if feminists do not engage men in their fight, it would be like doing battle with one arm tied behind our backs.

Dr Kenneth Paul Tan, assistant head of the NUS' political science department, said in an e-mail response: 'Just because a single feminist agenda cannot be agreed upon, it does not mean that feminism is dead.

'It could mean that being a woman is so much more complex than any one feminist might be able to understand.

'So here is a great reason for open and equal dialogue among feminists themselves and the women they wish they could represent but often cannot.'

--Sunday Times

Being a total sexist towards men at times myself, I feel that sometimes...are women given a little too much? All these talk about women being similar as men and stuff, all these allowances so that women can be equal to men...is it really necessary?

I mean, c'mon, think about it. An international Women's day this tuesday? What happened to "men's day"? A woman going into places which man have been all their life is considered "revolutionary"?

Give me a break.

Seriously, both genders to me are equal. Yet, the world does not see it so. Why? Simple, women just arn't standing up for themselves. Go to Orchard road, ask someone whether they know that this tuesday is Women's day, and they will probably look at you with a bizzare look on their faces before walking off. A day allocated to themselves, and they don't care. In the article, they noted that the women earned a lot less. Well, how about some more people working instead of being house-wifes? Must man be the housewife?

Or is it something else?

Like..they arn't working hard enough?

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they work hard, but are they playing their cards correctly? Office politics isn't something like a dai-dee game, where you need quite a bit of luck. It's more like poker. You must know when to fold, when to call.

One good example was the former head of Hewlett-Packard (it's amusing to note that they dare show this company's name with such an article), a female, who screwed her company over because of a mistake in buying over Compaq. Heck, the day she resigned, the HP stocks rose.

She(Ms Cecilia Pang) said in an interview: 'When we choose to strive in a traditionally male-dominated environment, what we're asking for is to be evaluated fairly and equitably along with the guys and be given the same social and economic benefits and support. It is not about women wanting to behave like men.'

You want fair? Sure. Try being a construction worker. How come that is a male dominated industry? Too heavy/too sunny for you? Well, too bad.

C'mon, think of most job positions that the world has, and you can easily come up with female names. Isn't that already fairly treating you females?

Yeah, I won't be surprised too. And about time you females decided to enter the politics. A lot of feedback was taken into account and made into policy? Congrats. I'm sure you worked them out.

# Of the 150 million children aged six to 11 who do not attend school, over 90 million are girls.

Perhaps it's their village doesn't have a school? I can easily name you some people who arn't allowed into schools, but have made the effort to keep trying. All you need, is the desire.

# Of the world's 876 million illiterate people over 15 years of age, two-thirds are women.

See above.

# One-third of all women have been violently abused.
Right, and somehow, women don't abuse men. It's just recently, that a few female teachers have been charged with having sexual relationships with their students below the age of 12

# HIV/Aids infection among women is increasing. Globally, 48 per cent of adults with HIV/Aids are women.
Maybe if they stop messing around so much....It's sex, not rape. And, I see more female prostitutes then male prostitutes in many many figures (and areas as well. LoL)

# Women make up 70 per cent of the 1.3 billion people worldwide who live in absolute poverty.
How do you define poverty? Family income, or personal income? What happened to "What he has is yours. What you have is yours" rule/belief? If the women is poor, does it mean that the male is poor as well?

Seriously, if women has such concerns over such issues, should they not stand up and protest as one? Look at the anti-slavery protests. Those worked, because everyone worked together.

With the kind of attitute of women, I fear that by the next century, nothing will be achieved. Women need to work together, learn their rights, and stand up as one.

Gamer girls...

Ah...

My favourite type of girls. Few and far in-between, usually. Met a few in forums, but they are still pretty rare.

But I gotta love Straits Times in the way they report rubbish. I thought I've seen some bad ones (including the story of the nerds who got hacked. Like real...)

Walk into any game arcade or LAN gaming shop and you'll find girls thrashing guys at their own game. For the uninitiated, LAN, or local area network, is a system that connects multiple computers, usually to play games.

Er...

Probably, but on the WCG (even the singapore leg), you don't see women winning. Stop trashing 5 year old n00bs and play with the big boys.

The girls don't just squeal in excitement over cute characters from adventure games like Maple Story. More are now seen hitting their keyboards in frustration when their characters are 'killed' in shoot-outs in macho games like Counter-Strike and Quake.

OMFG!!!!
QUAKE?

God, that brings back memories.

Dude. We are in Cs:S now. Heard of Half life 2? Halo 2? PlayStation 2? And, if they are so worked up just by the games, it pretty much shows their attitutes in real life. Unable to handle stress.

'With knowledge, information and contacts available via the Internet, the competitive edge is in the mind, which means sex matters far less,' he says.

In fact, since women have better mind-eye coordination and as their fingers are often slimmer, they tend to handle gadgets with greater dexterity, he notes.

Right. So why is most of the girls I've met online tell the world they are girls the second they enter a game? Hopes of "OMG! PICS NOW." replies? Heck, some of these "girls" are fakes. Better mind-eye coordination? Right, your mind and your eyes work well. Now, how about training that Hand-eye coordination? Better dexterity? Tell me, how many ways are there to press a PS2 controller? Fast fingers isn't everything (How fast can your fingers move using a keyboard and a mouse anyway..>_>), skill matters most. If it is, then why isn't the world's fastest typer a champion gamer?

Online chatting is another draw. Many new games have online chat capabilities which allow players from around the world to swop gaming tips and personal details.

Er..no. Most of the chats are filled with sex and people requesting/giving blowjobs. Gaming tips...don't make me laugh. Your skills are known only to yourself.

All in all, females can make good gamers. Heck, anyone can make good gamers. What's with this sudden craze that females have entered the gaming areas? Can't they play games like guys? What's all these hoo-ha all about? Yeah, they are good. I respect them for that.

After all, I am also a gamer. If you are good, I respect you. If you are not, I still respect you. Simple. Woman, man...like there's any crap difference.
--

Ah...yes...

Sunday Times also has these part about a bunch of losers who write in for help. Perhaps what they should do is to go out, hang out with their friends more instead.

Q I have a 12-year-old sister who's been going online very often.
I checked her phone and found that she's been text-messaging and talking with a few guys and using the words 'I love you' most of the time.

I've asked her to get home straight after school and I'm giving her access to her mobile phone only on weekends and when she's out. On weekdays, she'll have a curfew and will be allowed to log onto the Internet for a limited time each day.

Are all these restricting her too much? Can I stop her from contacting these online friends?

-- Worried sibling

Give her freedom, damnit. If she wants to get a boyfriend/girlfriend, LET HER BE? Who are you to restrict her? Once her grades are suffering, then tell her the mistakes. This also shows you that you need to be closer to your sister. How about talking to each other during dinner instead of bringing your food into your room to watch some videos or something and eat at the same time?

No self-esteem, no self-discipline

Q I lack self-control. I just can't stick to my to-do list.

Last year, I turned in almost every piece of homework late or not at all. How am I going to be ready for the O-level exams this year?

My social skills are also terrible. I either talk too fast or say stupid things.

I'm also convinced that people stare at me everywhere I go. This has been a problem since primary school, where I just didn't fit in and people teased me all the time.

I wish my parents would understand me more. We always snap at one another. I know they're tired after work and have money problems. -- Worrywart

Suicide is your only option.

Anyway, STOP PLAYING YOUR GAMES. Stop hanging out with your friends (if any) till 12midnight or watching CNN till late at night everyday!

For your second point, use a mirror. Go to some courses, and...well..use a mirror again.

Third, go for plastic surgery. Look in the mirror every morning. If you feel like vomiting, then you seriously need plastic surgery.

Forth, shut up. Let them rant all they want. You sit down quietly, and do your damned homework. Use music. That helps a lot too.

Damn...(part II)

Gah...

SOMEONE STOP ME FROM WATCHING BLEACH!!!

It's one heck of an excellent Anime, able to combine comedy and action very very well!

If it has an excellent ending, it is definately my favourite anime of all time!!

Gaaah...

In any case, the song of the (whatever) is Reason from the Gundam Seed Destiny(again..=P) 1st ending theme! It is sung by Tamaki Nami! If I were to rate it, I would say that it is my second favourite song, a little below Hikari!
--

Gah...

I don't know why.

Perhaps I'm afraid.

Afraid that something might happen once again.

Avoiding, is sometimes the best solution.

After all, ignorance is bliss.

Am I a coward?

Perhaps.

I don't know why....but maybe that's just me.

Afraid...once more.

Perhaps.

Damn...

C6...

>_>

<_<

>_>

I expected a C5....

WHO CARES?! =D

I ****ING PASSED! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!@!!!!!!!U1iu1iu1iUI!UI1u

Haha.

Anyway, the entire class passed. Congrats to all! Ko Sing shed some tears because she didn't make her expectations. Get it right next time then! There's a second chance in somethings sometimes! =D

However, it's scary to see that some people cried because they got an A2...and here I am being quite happy with my C6...scary...

As for me, I am happy with what I have. Hahaha.

After the whole thing was over, I followed Alice, Zhang Qian, Tan^2 and Ricky/Watson/whatever-his-name-is to watch Hitched. Decent comedy show, but being an Adrenaline junkie, it was boring. Haha. However, if I step back and see it as a romance comedy movie, it is a pretty good one.

However, how do you get a girl of your dreams?

Alice said that I probably learned a lot from the movie as to how to do that to get her (ZQ follows up after the usual "Who's her?" question: Pei Hua). Well, I am born with those skills, perfected many years ago before I even heard the word "love" =P

Nah, seriously. I just like being myself. The old sadistic and rubbish self many have come to known. How come it's always guys chasing the girls, and never the other way around?

Hahahahaha.

Like hell that will happen.

Then again..this is 2005...

Ah well.

Also, am I at times too kind? I seem to have some kind of reputation that I am kind. But hey, that's me. When someone is in need of help of some sort, and I can do it, why not? I mean, it isn't going to kill me or something.

Then again, I seem to be always helping the girls whenever they ask. >_<

Gaah. But then, how the heck am I supposed to refuse a lady?

That's just not me. Whenever I can, I don't refuse them.

To date, I have only turned down requests...I dunno..twice?

Aack..

But I like being helpful. The smile that they (not only the girls) give you after helping them, is worth all that trouble.

Also, I didn't know that a flute is that heavy. Then again, my bag didn't have crap since I do filing constantly. So, helping Alice carry that thing around isn't that bad. Hahaha.

Basically, I like being...ME. I don't like acting just to please people/whatever, although it maybe necessary at times. If you don't like me, too bad. Or maybe you can tell me how I can be...likeable. LoL.

People do need to change at times, right? Suggestions are always welcome.

Thursday, March 03, 2005

It never rains...

but it pours...

Damn, it finally rained.

Pretty heavy one as well. LoL.

Ah well, finally, the heat wave is gone.

At least for now.

Personally, I never liked rain. Seems gloomy to me. Prefer the sunshine, as it is when the birds can soar above the skies.

=D

Anyway, I decided to change the song of (whatever) because it rained today. It's Gonna Rain, from the Rurouni Kenshin's 6th Ending theme. XD

--

So...the results come out tomorrow..

>_>

<_<

Damn.

Anyway, best of luck to everyone!

(Fine fine, I'm nervous as hell!)

Wednesday, March 02, 2005

It's March already?

Wow...

How fast time flies.

Let's do a recap as to what I've learnt these three months.

Maths- Nothing
Chem- Nothing
Physics- Nothing

Whee.

Man, I need to find a way to stay awake during lectures. For some reason, even though I sleep earlier now, I still nod off.

So, I am left with the damned lecture notes, which is pretty much rubbish at times.

Ah well. I better start studying or something.

Or something first. XD

Anyway, I got bored and decided to mess around with Photoshop. I got some kind of idea when I was watching Ah! My Goddess (pretty decent Anime), and decided to do a little crap fan art.

Never Despair!

Hahaha.

I also downloaded all 20 episodes of Bleach, and after watching 3 episodes, I have to say that it is quite promising. Looking forward to watching them all soon.

So, I now have so much animes to watch...

-GSD
-AMG
-Last Exile on Arts Central
-Bleach
-Detective Conan
-FMA

Man.....XD

--

I'm so sorry that I have to do this. Even though you probably won't come here, since you probably have no idea where the hell this is, I still have to say I'm sorry. Had you entered my life 2 years ago, I might have said yes.

However, now isn't 2 years ago. Times change, people change.

I'm really sorry.

Damn, I really hate to take a gamble, but I really like this gamble.

If I lose....

Ah well. I hope I won't lose.

But the fate of my destiny isn't in my hands. It in someone's hands.

>_<

Gomen.

Tuesday, March 01, 2005

I'm soooo...lame.

Yeah, I am.. >_<

XD

Who cares.

"I'm in lov-"

Hey! What happened to the "e"?

XD

*runs*
